The St. Anthony of Padua Difference
In the early childhood program we recognize that development in young children is a continuous process. Although children proceed through the same sequence of development, they do not develop at the same rate. The major emphasis of the early childhood program is the utilization of developmentally appropriate practices to enhance language and communication skills. We accomplish this by providing a variety of classroom experiences, thematic units of instruction, hands-on activities and positive interaction with adults.
Early childhood students participate in activities such as circle time, centers, and story time. The Archdiocese does not require that children read fluently before leaving Kindergarten but rather have the necessary skills to be successful in first grade. Our goal for early childhood is that students are ready for a positive experience when they enter the elementary program.
Our early childhood classrooms are designed to provide a stimulating atmosphere of discovery, exploration and creativity, which encourage the development of a life-long love of learning. PreK classes are half-day. Kindergarten classes are full-day. Early childhood classes provide a low student-to-teacher ratio with full-time classroom assistants in all classrooms. Activities beyond the classroom such as Halloween Science Day, Go Texan Day, Earth Day, Fun-in-the-Sun Day and the Christmas Musical provide a well-rounded experience for our youngest students
