Liturgy of the Word

Our mission is to introduce the Liturgy to preschool age(4 and 5 years old) children through active involvement – ie. touching, seeing, feeling and doing.  During the school year teams of adult volunteers prepare a story based on the Sunday Liturgy, an art or craft project and spend approximately 20 minutes facilitating the Sunday sessions presented to the children during the homily.

What is Children's Liturgy of the Word?
It is a celebration of the Liturgy of the Word that is designed for children ages 6-11 years old.  It is not a catechism class nor is it baby-sitting.  It is a liturgical celebration.  The children are called by the presider to come forward and then they are sent forth to "hear the Word of God."  The children process to the Fellowship Hall with a lay-presider.  The same scripture readings proclaimed to the larger assembly in church are read to the children using the Children's Lectionary.  This Lectionary shortens the readings and uses language and vocabulary that is better suited for children.  The lay-presider leads the children in reflection of the readings and a closing prayer.  A Lectionary guidebook and other resources are provided for preparing your reflection with the children.
