Music at the Wedding Ceremony
Music adds a special dimension to any celebration. This is
especially true for a wedding. All music used during your
wedding liturgy should reflect not only the love between man and
woman, but also the sacredness of their union.
Careful attention must be given to the text of all songs to
assure that their meaning is not superficial or explicitly
sensual. Approved secular music may be used before the ceremony
begins, as the guests are being seated. Once the ceremony has
begun, only religious songs may be used. Congregational singing
is encouraged. Your guests should be an active part of the
ceremony.
Please plan to meet with the Pastoral Associate at least two
(2) months in advance or your wedding day. He/she will be happy
to help you plan your wedding celebration. Nothing should be
considered finalized until after this meeting. The Pastoral
Associate will provide you with information concerning the use
of a parish choir, soloists or other instruments for your
wedding.
The parish organist/accompanist is contracted to provide music,
not only for our Sunday, holyday, and special weekday Masses,
but is also guaranteed the right of first refusal for all parish
weddings. This means our parish organist/accompanist is to be
considered first for your celebration. If she/he is unavailable,
another name will be provided. Out-of-the-parish
organists/accompanists are discouraged.
The parish has several excellent soloists available. The soloist
will be expected to sing the responsorial psalm, the Gospel
acclamation, and, if the wedding is celebrated within a Mass,
the Sanctus (Holy, Holy), Memorial Acclamation, Great Amen, the
Lamb of God, in addition to the songs chosen throughout the
liturgy. A qualified guest soloist may be used with the approval
of the Pastoral Associate.. If additional rehearsals are needed
with the parish organist/accompanist, an extra fee may be
assessed.
If a string quartet or other instrumental group is providing
your music, a $75.00 bench fee will be charged in order for
someone to set up microphones or assist with any other equipment
that may be needed. This person will be present throughout the
ceremony.
No taped music is allowed. If, at any point in the marriage
preparation process, either the bride or the groom changes
his/her personal, cell or business phone number or address,
please let the parish office know immediately! We will be
phoning you with important questions during the marriage
preparation process.
