Baptism

                        Dear Parents,

Congratulations on the birth, adoption or anticipated arrival of your child! We join with your family in thanking God for this gift of life. You have asked that your infant child be baptized (child under age 7) and become a member of God’s Church and family. It is a very joyful experience for us to welcome a new Christian into the Church and into our parish community.

It will be your duty, with the help of the Godparents you have chosen and the whole Christian community, to bring up your child to keep God’s commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and neighbor.

To help you prepare for the celebration of baptism, we invite you to attend two (2) sessions of instruction. You must complete Session I before attending Session II. At that time, we will focus together on the meaning of baptism, what it is, how we live it and how we celebrate it. The enclosed class registration form must be filled out and returned to the Parish Office at least two (2) weeks prior to attending the first session.  The godparents are also encouraged to attend baptism classes.   PLEASE FORWARD A COPY OF THE OFFICIAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE OF THE CHILD.

Because of the importance of the sessions, we ask that you be on time.

·   We will welcome you beginning at 9:45 a.m.

·   We will begin the program at 10:00 a.m. and end at noon.

·   We ask that both parents and godparents attend.

·   Childcare is available. Children will be directed to the nursery.

Please read the enclosed material in this packet before the first session. We know you will find it helpful.

Both preparation classes must be attended and completed at least one month prior to the requested baptismal date.  If you have questions about the classes, please call Kim Garza.  If you have questions about scheduling the baptism, please call Kim Garza. The enclosed schedule lists the dates of our baptism celebrations.  If you wish a guest priest to baptize your child, we encourage them to come at the scheduled dates. If the life of the child is in danger, exceptions will always be made.  The date you choose for attending baptism classes will be set once you turn the form in to the office.  You do not need to call for verification.

If you have been through the Baptismal Preparation process at St. Anthony of Padua within the last three (3) years, you need not attend in order to schedule your child’s baptism.

Know that our prayers are with you as you prepare for the baptism of your child.

Yours in Christ,

The Baptismal Team
