ADULT FAITH FORMATION PROGRAMS
FALL 2007 - SPRING 2008
MISSION STATEMENT
We, the Adult
Education Committee of St. Anthony of Padua, a joyful Roman
Catholic Community, promote growth in the knowledge of our
relationship with Christ and one another. Our purpose is to help
adults more fully understand and live our Catholic faith so that
we will witness and share the Gospel in all aspects of our
lives.
Objectives:
1.
Adult Education
leads us to discipleship by developing our unique gifts through
learning, prayer, and experience, leading
us to the love
of Christ and one another in community, building the Kingdom of
God.
2.
Our focus is to
help parishioners grow in the life of Christ by the better
understanding of and participation in the full sacramental life
of the church through prayer, scripture, fellowship, theology,
social justice, and family life.
3.
We ask the help
of the Holy Spirit and our Holy Mother in providing a lifelong
conversion of the whole person growing in
spirituality
and knowledge through our Lord, Jesus Christ.

FTCM: FORMATION TOWARD CHRISTIAN MINISTRY
FTCM: Formation Toward Christian Ministry
“As sharers in the role of Christ the Priest, the Prophet, and
the King, the laity have an active part to play in the life and
activity of the Church.”
Many adult Catholics seek more education about their faith in
order to deepen their commitment to follow Jesus through service
to others. The Formation Toward Christian Ministry (FTCM)
program seeks to develop the basic academic, spiritual and
critical reflection skills necessary for Catholic Christians to
fully answer their Baptismal call to service. FTCM is a 90-clock
hour process delivered over the course of three semesters. Each
session includes prayer, content presentation and group
dynamics. Each semester involves participation in a Day of
Reflection as a means to encourage integration of content into
daily living. A graduation ceremony, at which the Bishop
presides, concludes the three-semester course of study. As a
core foundation program offered by the Archdiocese of
Galveston-Houston, FTCM provides the theological content courses
needed for Archdiocesan certification as a catechist. In
addition, FTCM is a prerequisite for catechetical leadership
preparation, diaconate formation and Archdiocesan certification
as a liturgist.
Excellent speakers and theologians are provided by the
Archdiocese

FAMILY
FAMILIA
FAMILIA
– or
FAMIly
LIfe
in America
– is a national apostolate of Catholic laity committed to the
well being of the family. Its programs are dedicated to
fostering the development of religious, moral, psychological,
and social values in the family. Because the relationship
between the mother and father is the cornerstone, and therefore,
determines the strength of the family, the two
primary
programs of FAMILIA are “Mothers of Young Children” and
“Husbands and Fathers.” We are also pleased to offer couples a
third FAMILIA program, “Splendor of Love.” All of these programs
are centered around respective teams of women,
men, and/or
couples meeting in a small setting to study the Gospel, the
Catechism, and Church documents – with a special emphasis on
Pope John Paul II’s encyclicals.
Registration:
The
registration fee to join “Mothers of Young Children” or
“Husbands and Fathers” is $60. The registration fee for couples
interested in “Splendor of Love” is $75. The value of sharing
Catholic principles from family to family is priceless! (Nursery
is provided at no additional cost.)
If you’re
looking to enrich your family life by participating in a
beautiful discovery of the meaning of married love, FAMILIA is
for you!

SACRAMENTS
RCIA – The Rite of
Christian Initiation for Adults
Are you thinking
about becoming a Catholic Christian?
This process
that adults embark on to become Catholic is a journey of faith
sharing, ritual, catechesis, scripture study, prayer, and
reflection, guided and welcomed by members of our parish
community.
You are invited
to join us in the Pre-Catechumenate phase of RCIA, designed to
provide you an opportunity to become more acquainted with our
Catholic community, its traditions, beliefs, and the gospel
values that guide our lives as Christians. We welcome you and
your questions to this journey of faith, and hope you will find
us not mere travel agents who are experts in the field, but
rather friends who offer ourselves as companions for the
journey.
RCIA meets
on Thursday evenings. If you are interested, please contact
Julie Korniewicz at 281 419.8700.
Adult Confirmation
All Christians
baptize, but only a few denominations see the need of an
anointing following baptism called confirmation. Why does the
Catholic Church insist that this sacramental anointing is
important? Isn’t it enough to have been washed clean, made God’s
sons and daughters, and filled with the Holy Spirit in baptism?
Come
find out what it means to be empowered
to serve!
Adult
Confirmation is for anyone, 18 years or older, who has been
baptized Catholic and has received First Communion.
Adult Confirmation
Time 7:30
- 9:00, Room 204
Tuesdays,
Starting March 25 - May 6, 2008
Contact
Julie Korniewicz at jkorniewicz@staoptw.org or 281 296.2800 to

will need the child’s name and age. Children whose names are
not on a nursery list for an event will not be admitted to the
nursery.
Please note
that all young children must have a spill-proof cup with drink
(no soda, red juice, or juice boxes/pouches are allowed). Older
children may have sports bottles. All children in diapers must
have diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes. All children
recently potty-trained must have a change of clothes.
